Otolaryngology, officially Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery, is the medical specialty commonly known as Ear, Nose, and Throat (or ENT). Originally combined with ophthalmology (Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat), the specialty has the proud heritage of being the first to board certify its practitioners. ENTs are surgeons, who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the head and neck. These include everything from cosmetic problems to malignancies. Patients include men, women, and children of all ages. Some patients see an otolaryngologist for a one time consultation or surgical procedure; others see their otolaryngologist longer term. Some of the things we treat:
  • ear infections
  • hearing impairment and other ear diseases
  • enlarged tonsils and adenoids
  • sinus diseases
  • nasal obstruction
  • diseases (including cancers) of the mouth, throat, thyroid, salivary glands, and other head and neck locations
  • laryngeal (voicebox) issues, such as hoarseness
Usually, we will work in consultation with your primary care doctor to determine the best avenue of care and treatment for you, and with other specialists as needed.
